Scared of losing your 9-5 job? Are there any high paying alternative work at home jobs?

Hi friends, I am writing this post while we are all in this COVID-19 pandemic craziness. It feels like the whole world has changed overnight.

While this is no doubt going to have a huge impact on the global economy, are you starting to feel anxious about how this will impact your family financially? Are you scared losing your 9 to 5 job after all this is over? What about paying bills, mortgages, kids lessons…

If these anxieties have been swirling in your head, perhaps now it’s time to look for alternative or backup plans?

Today, I have compiled 10 high paying work at home jobs where you can potentially make over $3,000/month.

Regardless of whether or not you will still have a 9-5 job after the pandemic is over, you can come out of this in a much better position than those who did nothing about it.

Let’s get to it.

1. Online English Tutor

GoGokids

If you enjoy interacting with children through teaching, English tutor is a well-paid work from home job.

It is in high demand especially for countries like China, where parents are willing to spend over and above for their children (speaking from someone who is Chinese myself).

As for the tutors, this usually requires very minimum experience, and if you are a native English speaker, and have a quick internet connection, you are good to go.

Here are 5 websites where you can apply to teach English to Chinese children who are between elementary and primary/secondary level.

Earning potential: up to $25/hr

2. Pinterest Account Manager

High paying work at home jobs

Pinterest account manager, you may also hear as Pinterest Virtual Assistant (VA).

Pinterest is a huge traffic powerhouse. Because it doubles as a visual search engine, Pinterest has been one of the essential traffic generators for many online business owners.

However, many of them don’t want to spend hours on Pinterest. Instead, they are happy to pay Pinterest account managers to do all that work for them.

So if you already spend hours on Pinterest, and enjoy graphic creation, Pinterest account manager might just be the right job for you!

Here’s my interview with Emily who quit her full time job after earning enough as a Pinterest VA in 8 months by taking THIS COURSE.  And that was at the low end of Pinterest VA. Students taking the same course who are in full time education are earning up to $10,000 a month!

Earning potential: $15-$50/hr

3. Virtual Assistant

High paying work at home jobs - VA

If Pinterest is not your thing, there are other Virtual assistant jobs that can be just as high paying while working at home.

Small businesses, bloggers and entrepreneurs look for VA to help them remotely with a wide range of tasks like

  • Social media management
  • Email marketing
  • Customer service
  • Research
  • Infographic creation

just to name a few… The job content varies depending on what the particular customer is looking for.

So it’s less about what previous experience you have as a VA, more about what skills you can offer.

Gina Horkey’s Fully Booked VA system helped Elizabeth to leave her full-time job to become a full-time entrepreneur.

4. YouTuber

High paying work at home jobs - Youtuber Creating video content on YouTube is another way to turn a hobby into a high paying work at home job.

Especially with people being stuck at home, YouTube video consumption is booming right now. Topics like home exercise videos, gardening, mindset, and homeschooling, just to name a few…

The reason YouTuber is one of the most lucrative high paying work at home jobs is because there are so many ways to monetise. The main way to get paid by YouTube is through Google Ads, however, you will need at least 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months and a minimum 1,000 subscribers.

While you are waiting to achieve that target, you can also make money through sponsored videos and affiliate marketing.

So If you can think of a niche that you can help people by creating videos on YouTube, you can start your own YouTube channel with just your smartphone.

Earning potential: $0-$10,000/month

5. Affiliate Marketing

This is one of my favourite high paying work at home jobs (in combination with blogging, more on this later)

I love Affiliate Marketing because it is the type of passive income for non-sales people like myself. It works simply by recommending products and services that you love to others through your online or social media platform. When someone clicks the link from you and makes a purchase, you get a commission from that purchase.

Although affiliate marketing can be slow to start with, once you build the momentum, the earning can snowball.

While the beginners can start making $50/month, successful affiliate marketers can make up to $10,000 a month.

Wealthy affiliate is an all-in-one platform that got me started with my online business. It provides all the necessary training on affiliate marketing. And it’s super beginner friendly.

Earning potential: $50-$10,000/month

6. Translator

If you are fluent in more than one language, you can make money from that skill by being a Translator.

Online streaming sites such as Netflix and YouTube are always looking for people to translate content from English to other languages. It is equally high in demand for those non-English content creators to look for someone to translate to English, so the content can reach a larger audience.

Being a translator is one of the high paying work at home jobs. According to Upwork, freelancers charges between $40-$100/hr for their services.

You can sign up as a freelancer on general sites like Upwork or Fiverr, or you sign up to translation specific sites like below to get listed. Some of them do require you to take a qualification test.

Earning potential: $40-$100/hour

7. Online Proofreader

For those who love to read, you can make money online as a proofreader.

Proofreading is different from editing. It is the step after editing, usually the last part of the writing process.

Online business owners, authors and bloggers look for proofreaders to help them catch vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation errors that may have not been caught during the editing process.

You do not need to be an English or journalism background to be a proofreader. As long as you have patience, and some good tools like Grammarly (Free) or Google docs, you are good to go.

Here are a few sites that do not require any experience as a proofreader:

Earning potential: $10- $45/hr

8. Transcription:

Transcribing jobs are where you get paid to translate audio files into written documents. If you can type fast and a good listener, you are good to go.

Although this is not the most glamorous job online, it is one that allows you to pick your hours and workload. Perfect for those of you who need to work around family schedules.

Here are a few websites that offer competitive rates:

Earning potential: $15-$45/hr

10. Start a Blog

Thank you Chloe, your article was very interesting for me as I have taken the plunge at this time to work from home after thinking about doing this for the last year.

I have decided to go down the wealth affiliate programme route after a lot of research. Personally this is the one that suits me and links nicely with my goals. Whilst I am in the early stages I am getting a lot of education whilst I build my business. The other thing I like is that there are a lot of people who can help me.

    Lovely educational article. Thank you

Most definitely something that I’m into. I have been doing this thing with online marketing for a decade and it’s the best choice I have made. If people could see the opportunity they have right now to start an online business or a work from home job especially if they’re laid-off right now, they can learn the skills it takes to make extra money online by using a social media platform like Pinterest and Instagram. $3000 a month would change a whole lot of people’s lives.

      Hi Johnny,

Sounds like online/affiliate marketing is working well for you as a high paying work from home job. With the internet these days, there are so many choices to make money from it, just need to be willing to do it.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience.
      Keep safe and stay healthy.

Excellent ideas! The one that appeals the most to me is being an English tutor. Now, let me ask you something. Can I become one even if I’m not a native speaker? And secondly, do I need a certification?

I’d thought about opening my YouTube channel, but honestly, there’s a lot of competition. I’m not saying it’s impossible to make money there though. I might try it in the future.

I didn’t know about Netflix or YouTube looking for translators. That could be another option for me.

What I need is something that can generate more immediate income since some options like blogging and YouTube can take some time to start generating income.

    Thanks for sharing!

      Hi,

You are correct about certain options are more fast cash than others, and it’s a great idea to mixed the two so you can make some money immediately while you are investing on something that takes longer but has a greater longer return.

To answer your question about English tutor, you do NOT need to be a native English speaker. The requirements are different from site to site. Certain sites like QKids require specific certifications such as TEFL or IELTS – (International English Language Teaching System), while others like GoGoKids, ask for an interview.

      Hope that helps,
      Chloe

Love this list – some great straightforward ideas here! I still earn $30-100/month from affiliate marketing I set up years ago, on a now defunct website. I’m getting ready to launch my new blog soon and I’m excited to continue growing my passive income.

Affiliate marketing is a great passive income stream. All the best on your new blog Heather.
